Announcing: #FeederHour

Monday, April 13th, 2020

This is a fun (or maybe silly) idea that occurred to me last night. Let’s have a Zoom meeting to share views of our feeders, and see how many bird species we can identify in an hour. This isn’t an “official” Carpinteria Birdwatchers meeting; there is no program or presentation. It’s just an informal get-together to try out the idea. If it works we can maybe do more of them in the future. (Note that we’ll still be having our “real” meeting this week on Wednesday for the panel discussion on “Teaching Birdwatching.”)

I’m going to try doing this #FeederHour thing today (Monday, April 13, 2020). I’ll launch the meeting at 3:45 p.m. (Pacific), with the official “count window” running from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. I’ll set up cameras for my two feeder stations, and maybe we’ll be able to get one or more other participants to share views of their feeders as well.

Topic: #FeederHour 1
Date: Monday, April 13, 2020
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Pacific

See you there!

Update: We had a lot of fun with as many as 5 feeder cams running at once, all from the greater Carpinteria area. The final tally was 17 species. See this spreadsheet for details.
